IMPORTANT: This is the first part of the ongoing Fineducate interview series featuring insights from Adib Mattar, the Head of Private Equity at Mubadala (Sovereign Investment Fund of Abu Dhabi)

In the complex yet strange world of finance and banking, the path to success often unfolds in a predictable way. Ivy League degrees, coveted internships, and prestigious firms seem to be the norm. However, success in this arena is not always a straightforward journey, as the incredible story of Adib Mattar demonstrates.

Adib Mattar, Head of Private Equity at Mubadala, did not take the conventional path. Rather, after earning a degree from the University of William and Mary, he ventured beyond the world of finance. He held various roles in different industries, including Texas-based oil-related businesses and real estate.
Despite his unconventional start, Adib’s thirst for knowledge about international relations and business led him to pursue further education. He earned an MBA and a Master’s in Foreign Studies at Georgetown University, blending global affairs with finance, broadening his perspective.

Following his academic pursuits, Adib entered the heart of finance, joining Credit Suisse. His time at the prestigious institution sharpened his skills and expanded his network within the industry. However, his journey was far from typical.

At Mubadala, the sovereign investment company of the state of Abu Dhabi, Adib’s rise was anything but conventional. Through dedication and resilience, he carved his path, rising through the ranks to lead the private equity division. His journey highlights the fact that success in finance isn’t bound by a singular path but rather forged through diverse experiences and unwavering commitment.

Adib’s story is a reminder that in the world of finance, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to success. While pedigree and prestige open doors, it’s passion, adaptability, and unconventional thinking that truly set individuals apart in this competitive landscape.

In a world often favoring conformity, Adib’s journey inspires those daring to carve their paths. His story underscores that success isn’t about following a predefined trajectory but about resilience, determination, and belief in oneself.
